Transition happens throughout our lives. In the case of our children in school, there are several important transitions: beginning preschool, entering kindergarten, moving to middle school, entering high school and transitioning to life after high school. When we use the word “Transition” in an educational setting, we are often referring to the last one, transitioning students from high school to adult life. This includes learning life skills, preparing for higher education, independent living, volunteerism or employment, and figuring out what our kids will do after high school. Parents have lots of questions about this final educational transition: where will their supports come from, where will they live, what will they do during the day, do I need guardianship over my child? The documents below will start you on the journey to transitioning your teen to life after high school. These are by no means the be-all-end-all of resources, there are lots out there, but we hope these will get your started and relieve some of the stress of this transition stage.
